If you’re on the hunt for artificial bamboo plants to add to your indoor or outdoor space, you’ve come to the right place!

Just like in my guide to the best faux fiddle leaf fig trees, today I’m going to show you all the best priced and best quality fake bamboo trees!

Why consider a faux bamboo plant?

Real bamboo is a wonderful plant! It’s a sustainable, evergreen perennial plant that belongs to the grass family. Real bamboo is eco friendly and grows really quickly. It also self regenerates from its own roots.

However, real potted bamboo might not thrive if it’s not planted in an optimal climate. This means you might not get the desired height out of real bamboo in a planter box. That’s why faux sometimes is the way to go.

Conversely, if your real babmoo plant *is* thriving, you might find that keeping it contained in a planter is quite a bit of work. The roots can often get out of hand and crack the bottom of your planter, and the plants need dividing and repotting every couple of years.

Let’s look at some of the benefits of having faux bamboo plants as opposed to the real thing.

Benefits of faux bamboo plants:

  • Faux bamboo plants won’t grow aggressively as the real thing would (in an optimal climate).
  • Even though real bamboo doesn’t actually require that much water, you will save h2o by not having to water your bamboo plant.
  • Fake bamboo plants cannot die.
  • You will never need to re-pot a faux bamboo because it will never outgrow its pot.
  • Faux bamboo can be placed inside virtually anywhere, and you won’t risk damaging your floors when you need to water it (because it doesn’t need water lol).

Where to use artificial bamboo plants

On a patio or balcony

Faux bamboo plants can be used in many ways but my favorite has to be using them as privacy screens on patios and balconies.

Using artificial bamboo plants on a patio or balcony that needs extra privacy has become a classic. I’ve even heard realtors suggesting this tip to their clients at open houses!

As a fence

A fake bamboo fence can be a great way of creating a natural-looking barrier.

You can also place bamboo plants in front of an existing fence to create an additional layer of interest in your landscaping.

The faux bamboo plants from London Planters featured in the image above are beautiful and incredibly life-like.

To cover an unattractive/damaged wall

If you have a wall that is damaged or not looking its best, but you’re not able to fix it, try placing tall faux bamboo trees in front of it. It will help disguise the eyesore.

In front of a window that needs privacy

Using faux potted bamboo plants in front of large windows works especially well in public and commercial spaces. The plants serve as a beautiful privacy barrier when things like drapes and blinds aren’t practical or a viable option.

In a residential setting, it could work well in a hallway that has an abundance of windows.

Use indoors

Of course faux bamboo trees can also be used indoors. Place them in dark corners that don’t receive a lot of (or any) natural light where real plants would suffer.

Bamboo plants definitely have a zen feel to them. If you’re trying to create a relaxing space for meditation, or perhaps you’re going for an Asian themed decor, artificial bamboo plants might be just what is missing in your space.

The 4 best artificial bamboo trees

A lot of faux bamboo trees are made of silk and might not do so well outside in climates that get a lot of rain. If you’re going to be placing your faux bamboo outside, make sure to check the material your faux tree is made out of before purchasing.

If you’re going to be placing your faux bamboo outdoors, then opting for full plastic will likely result in a longer-lasting tree if you live in a country where the winters are harsh or where you experience a lot of rain.

How to display artificial bamboo trees

In long rectangular planters

If you want to go for a sleek and modern look, then housing your artificial bamboo plants in minimalist rectangular planters is the way to go.

You can use one long planter, or group two or three side by side.

Grey, black, white, wood and even steel would all be great options.

In individual pots

If you’re looking for a more traditional look, or you simply want to display one single plant, you could use individual pots.

I’m head over heels for these “pleated” planters designed by Adam Robinson for House of Bamboo (pictured below).

Not only would bamboo plants look amazing housed in these contemporary planters, but the planters themselves are also MADE out of bamboo! 🤩(Sadly, these planters are only available for purchase/pick up in Australia at the moment.)

Here are some other contemporary planter pots that I love!

Potted in rocks

You’ll often see bamboo trees displayed in beds of river rocks – this looks particularly attractive outdoors or when you have several plants in one long container.

Baskets

If you’re displaying indoors, or outdoors in a climate where it doesn’t rain, baskets can be a great display vessel for plants.

Tips to make your faux bamboo look real

  • When you take it out of the box, be sure to “fluff” the branches and leaves to give it a full look.
  • Give the plant some time for the leaves to fall into place so that they look more natural.
  • Don’t display it in the cheapo plastic container it comes in – they’re too small and look weird. Place your plant in a much larger pot.
