Best Mid Century Modern Beds

Are you searching for the perfect mid century bed for your bedroom? Then you should definitely check out these options!

The beauty of mid century modern furniture is that it tends to pair well with pretty much anything – hence the reason why as a design style, mid century remains so incredibly popular!

So even if you’re still not sure what kind of bed is right for you, I would still recommend checking these out!

Some typical design features you can look for in a mid century bed are:

– tapered legs
– angled legs
– tufted headboards
– wood frames

With so many options on the market, I thought it could be helpful to round up some of my favorite mid century modern style beds that fall within a reasonable (aka affordable) price range.

Evie bed, Urban Outfitters

The Evie Bed from Urban Outfitters has a simple yet lovely, classic vintage profile. The “natural” color option is made out of a combination of poplar wood, plywood, cherry wood veneer and pine wood.

The legs taper slightly and the bed has a nice elevation from the ground with a clearance of just over 9″ (oh hey, you can vacuum under there and look at all that extra storage space!).

The headboard is wooden and caged, with curved edges. There’s no footboard on the Evie bed.

As a side note, there used to be a color variation of the Evie bed called “moss”, which no longer appears to be available on the UO website. If you were set on having that color, you could always paint the natural frame to get the same effect. I would recommend using Caldwell Green from Benjamin Moore, as it looks like a really close match 🙂

Update early 2023: it seems the Evie bed is only carried in black now.

Nera Bed, Article

If you are a lover of mid-century wood paneling, this bed might be for you.

The Nera bed from Article is described as follows:

The Nera is finished with veneered American walnut. Dark and moody, it’s Don Draper without the personal shortcomings. Subtle chevron wood grain gives the Nera a quiet grandeur.

(As a nerdy Mad Men fangirl side note, here is what both of Don Draper’s beds looked like in the series😅)

Anyways, you can purchase the Nera bed with or without nightstands. The nightstands are built onto a panel that attaches directly to the headboard, giving you an extra wide headboard with integrated storage. This was not unusual to see in 1960s bedroom sets and creates a super authentic mcm look.

Upholstered Platform Bed, Amazon

This bed has been featured on this website before, as it’s actually a more affordable lookalike version of the West Elm mid century bed called the Mod Upholstered bed.

The lookalike version of this West Elm bed is sold on Amazon and comes in 2 colors: beige and dark grey, and is crafted from solid rubberwood. It features a distinct mid century modern design with splayed legs and a low profile.

The upholstery material is made of 100% linen and the bed does not require a box spring as it uses slats instead.

If you love this style but were hoping for a tufted headboard instead, then check out the Jonesy bed over at Target!

Hannah bed, Target

If you’re after a slightly more retro silhouette, the Hannah bed could be a good fit for you.

It has a gracefully curved wingback headboard, delicate tufting and solid rubberwood tapered legs. The upholstery is linen.

The Hannah mid century platform bed comes in a couple of other different color options, if you don’t like the light blue. For some reason Target’s site makes it difficult to locate the other colors, so I’ve linked them here for you:

Henline Platform Bed, Wayfair

This midcentury modern style platform bed is truly a stunner. Honestly for the price, it’s an incredible deal. I personally think this bed looks to be worth a lot more than it actually costs.

I almost feel like I need to include this bed in my boho beds round up because the look of this piece is so versatile. While the tapered legs and spindle style headboard definitely give off those midmod vibes, this particular bed would fit in well with a variety of different decor styles.

The Henline is solid pine, requires no box spring and the queen size only costs $380 (for the queen size).

It comes in 5 colors: Caramel, Walnut, Light Oak, Black and White.

Target also makes an identical version of this – it used to be cheaper than Wayfair, but now it’s more expensive! Here’s the Target link just in case – prices change on these things all. the. time. Best to keep your bases covered and shop around.

Reid bed, Target

Can’t decide between an all wood bed frame or upholstered? Boom, Target’s got you covered. This walnut/oatmeal combo is great if you want to soften all that mid-century wood with some tufted upholstery coziness. Also comes in walnut/dark gray.

Though heads up, this bed is primarily made of mdf, so if you’re looking for solid wood, you might want to pass on this one.

The Abril bed on Wayfair is similar to this one, so you could check that out too.

Simas Bed, Wayfair

The Simas bed has very good reviews, however apparently the assembly instructions are very BAD. Many reviewers also felt the need to mention that this bed comes with a lot of screws 😆

Fascinating review trivia aside, I think the vertical tufting on this bed is what makes this bed so visually appealing. I also find the legs to be interesting – often the classic tapered and angled mcm legs are round, but these ones are squared off and give off a very distinct, chiseled look.

This mid century style bed is made out of a combination of solid and manufactured wood and comes in 3 colors: grey, taupe and mustard.

Lilly Bed, Wayfair

The elegant sled design of this bed is probably one of my favorites. The frame is solid wood, making this a real quality bed.

There are 2 color options for the platform structure: either cappuccino or walnut. There are also 15 or so different headboard color combinations. So you can truly customize this bed to fit your mid century space!

Carlsen bed, Wayfair

The elegant Carlsen bed is made in Italy, crafted out of taupe, eco friendly leatherette. The frame is solid wood and the design is a beautiful blend between mid century modern and minimalist.

This bed is on the pricier side but could be worth it if it’s exactly the look you are going for.

Glynn Upholstered Platform Bed, Wayfair

Digging the mid century velvet bed vibes? Great, cause I’ve got one more.

Check out the Glynn bed, in a luscious emerald velvet, paired with classic mid century tapered wood legs.

The wing-like panels that extend out from the headboard remind me of a 1960s Cadillac. It’s majestic.
