Behold! The perfect solution for hanging your Christmas stockings pretty much anywhere!

While everyone else is super excited about stocking holders because they make for great additional Christmas decor or cute gifts, I’m losing my mind over what a GREAT solution these are for people that don’t have mantelpieces!

Say WHAT? I can hang my stocking pretty much ANYWHERE now?! 🤯

If you DO have a mantel, the cool thing about these GLORIOUS handy dandy thingamajiggers (so-called “stocking holders”) is that you don’t have to ruin your mantel with nails!

You just plop it down wherever and you’re good to go. Christmas stocking mantle hangers are literally the gifts that keep on giving.

I’d be horrified at my childhood self for putting a nail in our beautiful original craftsman mantelpiece!

Now, not only can you avoid this abominable practice, but you can hang your stockings with the utmost style as well!

Mantel stocking holders are a super cute Christmas accessory and can be dressed up to look even more festive with a little fresh greenery, twinkle lights or a candle.

⚠️DO YOU HAVE KIDS?? A quick word of warning!!⚠️

I don’t mean to be a buzzkill, but if you are using very heavy stocking holders and have small children, PLEASE BE CAREFUL! If a child pulls hard enough on their stocking, the holder could fall down and onto their head which can cause serious injury. Nobody wants to spend Christmas in the hospital!

With small children, please avoid using stocking holders with big chunky cast iron figurines or with heavy marble bases. Opt for the “hook” style hangers instead; they’re safe and still work really well! Sometimes they’re called “mantel clips”.

Where To Hang Your Stocking Holders if You Don’t Have a Mantel

And as we briefly touched on earlier, you don’t have to limit yourself to hanging stockings on a mantel – heck, you might not even have a mantel (I don’t…).

Here are some of the neato places you can place your xmas stocking holder if, like me, you don’t have mantel:

  • bookshelves
  • countertops
  • sideboards
  • desks
  • benches
  • staircases
  • tables
  • window ledge
  • pretty much anywhere you can think of that has a flat surface your stocking holder can rest on.

The Best Christmas Stocking Holders To Buy

To save you some time hunting around for the perfect stocking hanger, I’ve gathered up some of my favorites available this year.

Stocking hangers come in every imaginable shape and form – from modern to mid-century, to traditional, boho rustic, glam and more!

They also vary in price wildly – I’ve tried to keep my options on the more affordable side, but it also kind of depends on how many you need to buy. Obviously more hangers = more expensive (prices current at time of publishing).

Now feast your eyes on these festive hooks! Do you have a favorite? Click on your favorite stocking holder below to shop!

Want something a little different?

Consider a Christmas stocking holder that stands on the floor instead!

Don’t like any of these options? The following retailers have entire sections on their websites dedicated to stocking hangers! I guarantee you’ll find one you like!!

Oh, and if you’re looking for the perfect stockings to pair with your new hangers and Christmas mantel decor, these are my favorite ones at the moment. To see just how well the first two stockings look together in real life, check out this rustic black and white Christmas mantel.

Other things you can use instead of a stocking holder

If you’re not into this trend but you’re still looking for a nail-free way to hang your stocking, below are a few ideas. You’ll need to ensure the loop on the stocking is big enough to fit around some of these. If not, you could add some ribbon to the existing loop and hack it to fit:

  • door knob
  • bedpost
  • coat hanger
  • wall hook
  • command hook
  • closet knob
  • dresser handle

I can’t believe I actually just ended up writing an entire post on this topic – what can I say, I guess the small things amaze me 🤣

So fill me in: how are you hanging your family’s Christmas stockings this year?!
