Gold Home Decor: Massive Round Up For All Budgets

Let’s talk about gold home decor! Because gold is BACK! 💃
You might be thinking, “But wait!! There are many different variations of the color gold! Which one do you mean?!”
For simplicity, in this post let’s just call any warm-toned metal “gold”! Basically, I’m referring to anything like brass, burnished gold, hammered bronze, unlacquered brass, etc.
Gold + home decor in the 80s
In the good old 1980s, they really took gold and brass to the next level in interior design by making it super-extra-mega shiny. 😑
This over the top approach unfortunately made the warm metal fall out of favor for a long time, and home decorators and designers turned to using chrome and stainless steel instead.
Anything yellow hued and metallic was shunned and considered tacky! Many people that lived through that era are still scarred by the 80s and 90s gold tones and would never consider introducing shiny gold into their decor today. But that’s ok because we love it!
Fast forward a couple of decades …
Metals come in and out of style all the time, and rose gold started popping up everywhere in home decor. It fell out of favor fairly quickly. And it was at that point that the use of yellow toned gold started appearing again more and more.
The finishes on the gold we are seeing today in home decor are more subtle, with rich warm tones rather than the flat yellows of the 80s, which often felt like they had green undertones.

Antiqued and brushed finishes are popular; and though people are still somewhat wary of super high shine gold, we are starting to see that again too. For example a lot of Art Deco inspired spaces feature high shine brass.
Gold’s comeback in home decor
Gold has been making a major comeback in home decor over the past few years and I am so happy about that!
You’ll notice everything from furniture with gold and brass accents, to smaller accessories like planters and decorative ornaments, and even kitchen and bathroom hardware!
I think a lot of people are drawn towards the warmth and coziness of gold, as it tends to pair well with earthier palettes and generally just feels a lot less clinical than chrome and stainless steel.
Gold works really well as an accent color; in general metallics usually do.
This means that you have so many opportunities to add this wonderful color to your home without having to be too committed to it.
